Soca superstar Kes and Grammy Award-winning artiste Sean Paul are jointly working on an official anthem for this year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The track, produced by Michael ‘Tano’ Montano, will be accompanied by a music video featuring cameos from several “well-known superstars”.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the two stars’ collaboration exactly 50 days before the cricket tournament’s first match on Saturday 1 June. Twenty international teams will converge on venues in the USA and the West Indies for the series, which reaches its climax on Saturday 29 June.
“Cricket has always been a major part of our culture, so I’m honoured to record the official anthem for the T20 World Cup,” said Sean Paul. “I’m a big fan of Kes and the track will feature a nice touch of the Caribbean.”
Kes was just as excited: “Blending cricket – dear to us in the Caribbean – with music is a powerful combination.” The two singers agreed that the new song is going to be a “worldwide anthem” that will create a spirit of unity, as people sing it together in the stadiums.
“Fans can expect a song that will reflect the Caribbean identity, while retaining universal appeal for global cricket fans,” said Claire Furlong, ICC general manager marketing & communications.
The first match, between the USA and Canada, takes place at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas, and the final fixture will be held in Barbados. Meanwhile, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Trophy Tour is building excitement as it makes its way through the Caribbean.
