Shurwayne Winchester and Kernal Roberts are proving they will not be left out of the ‘Mother of All Carnivals’ celebrations. The duo have teamed up on a track they describe as ‘a wake-up call to artists’, encouraging them to focus on anthems that illustrate the essence of carnival.
Shurwayne emphasised the motive for the song by saying, “Power soca is at the root of our festival. Without the right power soca songs to make the people move in the fetes, we will have nothing close to the mother of all carnivals”.
Roberts also lent his voice by adding, “We are not bashing any artists for going along that vein, but Trinidad and Tobago once had an established sound and we feel it’s time for that sound to be owned by us, fuelled by us and promoted by us”. Rumble was released on 9 January, and is available for streaming or downloading via all of the major platforms.
