Tate Modern, one of the leading contemporary art museums, is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a four-day Birthday Weekender from Friday 9 to Monday 12 May. Located on the South Bank on the River Thames, the museum is renowned for its bold architecture and dynamic exhibitions.
The celebration begins on Friday 9 May evening with FLEX – A Mini Festival, a free DJ set with music by Radiate Flex DJ Collective – DJ KTM, Hyper Spice & Phat Kontrolaz. There will also be carnival visuals from Sugar Rush and Virtue Vanite. This all takes place in the museum’s Terrace Bar in the Blavatnik Building, Level 1. This event, from 6pm to 9.30pm, commemorates 25 years of art, creativity, and expression.
Radiate Festival, known for its Caribbean-inspired music events, will bring its signature energy to the Terrace Bar, ensuring an evening filled with sounds and a lively atmosphere. This collaboration is part of Tate Modern’s broader initiative to engage diverse audiences and celebrate contemporary culture.
The Birthday Weekender will feature various activities, including live performances, interactive workshops, pop-up talks, and special exhibitions. Highlights include the return of Louise Bourgeois’s monumental sculpture, Maman, in the Turbine Hall, and the unveiling of two new free exhibitions: A Year in Art: 2050, which explores futuristic artistic visions, and Gathering Ground, which focuses on ecological and social themes.
Visitors can also participate in family-friendly art-making sessions through UNIQLO Tate Play and enjoy unique food and drink offerings inspired by the museum’s collection. The weekend’s festivities highlight Tate Modern’s commitment to accessibility and innovation in the arts.
