The Mighty Shadow

The Mighty Shadow passes away, aged 77

Veteran calypsonian Winston Bailey, better known as The Mighty Shadow, passed away today in the early hours off the morning. He had been hospitalised over the weekend after suffering a stroke.

Shadow’s career has spanned several decades, and his body of work includes beloved classics like Bassman, Tension, Feeling the Feeling, Dingolay, Poverty is Hell, Yuh Looking for Horn and Stranger. He won Road March in 1974 for Bassman, and became the oldest winner when he won again in 2001 for Stranger, a tune that also won him International Soca Monarch. He was scheduled to become an Honorary Doctor of Letters for Contributions as a Musical Composer from the University of the West Indies.
