Dominica’s pioneering Bouyon band, Triple Kay International, celebrates 25 years of contributions to the island’s music scene.
Emerging in the late 1990s in Laudat, the band started as a group of young musicians creating rhythms on school desks and performing in church choirs. Their vision to craft music resonating with Dominica’s culture propelled them to become a cornerstone of Bouyon music, solidifying their position as a second wave of innovation following the genre’s originators, the WCK band.
As part of the celebrations, Cranberry TV premiered the first episode of a six-part docuseries titled The Rhythms of Triple Kay – 25 Years of Bouyon Beats on Wednesday 22 January. This series chronicles the band’s evolution from humble beginnings to becoming one of Dominica’s best musical groups. Weekly episodes will further explore their legacy and future aspirations.
Triple Kay’s performances at regional carnivals and international festivals have built a devoted following, making them cultural ambassadors for Dominica. Their dedication to innovation continues with plans for new music and dynamic performances. According to the band, their 25th-anniversary celebrations are a testament to the power of passion and determination in music.
