Tickets for the UK National Steelbands Panorama competition are now available. The price for adults is £20 + £1.56 booking fee and £7 + £0.55 for 5-17-year-olds; under-5s go free. The proceeds are divided among the bands.
The six steel bands vying for the honour of being declared Panorama champions this year are Croydon Steel Orchestra, defending champions Ebony Steelband, Mangrove Steelband, Metronomes Steel Orchestra, Real Steel and Southside Harmonics. As usual, the winners will be announced on the night, after which DJs will play until midnight.
Billed as a family day, Panorama has long served as the pre-eminent carnival lime at Notting Hill, especially for steelpan aficionados. The gates to Emslie Horniman’s Pleasance Park, off Kensal Road, open at 4pm, and there is music and other entertainment before the first ring of steel is heard, as well as food stalls and bars. If you find yourself far from the performance area, don’t worry, as large screens should ensure everyone has a view.
