Winston ‘Gypsy’ Peters resigns as NCC Chairman after seven year tenure

|

Released Date

Winston “Gypsy” Peters has stepped down as Chairman of the National Carnival Commission (NCC) of Trinidad and Tobago, concluding a leadership period that began in April 2018. His appointment was announced by the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts, with Peters receiving his letter of appointment on 20 April 2018.

Peters, a celebrated calypsonian and former government minister, brought his extensive cultural experience to the NCC, overseeing the organisation of the nation’s premier cultural event, Carnival. He steered the Commission through significant financial challenges during his tenure, including delayed government subventions that profoundly impacted Carnival preparations.

In May 2024, the NCC appointed Keiba Jacob Mottley as its new Chief Executive Officer, signalling a phase of leadership renewal within the Commission.
