Join us in celebrating Haiti’s Flag Day at South Norwood Lake!
Haitian Flag Day (18th May) commemorates the creation of the Haitian flag in 1803 during the revolutionary fight for independence. More than a national symbol, the flag represents unity, resilience, and the triumph of freedom.
Haiti holds a unique place in world history as the first independent Black republic and the first nation to permanently abolish slavery through a successful revolution.
Flag Day is celebrated across Haiti and throughout the diaspora with music, cultural performances, poetry, and community gatherings.
2026 Theme: Nature, Heritage & Cultural Roots
This year’s festival highlights the richness and diversity of Haitian artistic expression, bringing together performers representing music, dance, poetry, and visual art.
