Alexander D Great

Alex’s jubilee calypso is huge hit at Britain’s Got Talent

|

As Britain ties itself up in bunting and gets ready for some full-on street-partying, Alexander D Great (Alex Loewenthal) – who surely qualifies as a ‘national treasure’ himself – has released a suitably festive calypso.

Big Party For Your Platinum Jubilee is an unashamedly upbeat, positive song about the massive contribution the monarch has made in her 70 years on the throne. It’s easy to imagine the late, great Lord Kitchener (Coronation Calypso) and Young Tiger (I Was There at the Coronation) nodding in approval.

In typical Alexander style, it jauntily runs through the Queen’s reign, from her childhood and accession to the throne in 1952, and checks off her fashion style and interests:

As young Princess Elizabeth she joined the guides

And won the Children’s Challenge Shield aged 13.

She loves art, music, theatre and equestrian rides.

A fine horsewoman the Queen has always been!

When Alexander sang the song on Britain’s Got Talent on 14 May it received four immediate ‘yes’ votes from the judges and went down a storm with the audience too.

Sample comments on YouTube: “That is soo beautiful! Great way to honor the queen”; “Hope the Queen get to watch this as Her Majesty would love it”; “Brought me to tears with that song.”

You can watch Alex’s BGT performance here:

Better still, hear Alex sing it live at a special Platinum Jubilee show at The Tabernacle, Powis Square W11, on Saturday 4 June.

And of course Soca News endorses Alex’s sentiments:

To show our appreciation we’re having this celebration

And we wish Your Majesty a wonderful day.
