Culture B (Roston Simon), a veteran Tobagonian soca musician, was crowned winner of the inaugural edition of the Stars of Soca competition, which was held in Tobago on 26 October.
The winning song was Strong Rum, for which Cultire B took home the winning prize of TT$50,000, paid homage to the Tobago Heritage Festival and the Moriah Ole Time Wedding, to showcase the popular brush-back dance of the island to tourists.
In second place were Mike-Tower (Michael Skeete) and Too Real (Kwame McLean) with Firestorm, an award which won the duo TT$30,000; GMB (Gerald Balfour) came in third, garnering TT$20,000 along with that honour.
The competition, held at the Shaw Park Cultural Complex, was an initiative of the Tobago House of Assembly and Tobago Festivals Commission, and was organised by Radio Tambrin and M&E TV’s Peter Lewis.
Tobago carnival took place from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 October 2022.
