Las lap at Hackney Carnival

|

Get your hat on! It’s Hackey Carnival on Sunday 11 September, so it’s time to wear something extravagant and join in the fun.

Many people look forward to Hackney as the satisfying finish to the capital’s carnival season. After the challenges of the pandemic, Hackney Carnival 2022 is ready for the road.

It starts at 12.30pm in Mare Street near London Fields station and heads north past the judging point at Hackney Town Hall (1-4pm). Near Hackney Central station, the parade turns left into Graham Road. Another left-hand turn takes masqueraders and followers into Queensbridge Road, then the procession moves along Pownall Road and Trederwen Road before ending in Lansdowne Road next to London Fields. Water refill points are available along the route, so take your bottle.

As well as the carnival parade, there’ll be plenty of family activities, sound systems and live music at St John’s Paddock (12-7pm). Those who can’t be there in person can catch a carnival livestream (lovehackney.uk/carnival).

Names familiar to Soca News readers involved in the event include Pax Nindi, Soca Massive and Tropical Isles mas band.
