No Mas Domnik for 2021 as Dominica cancels Carnival

Dominica Carnival 2021 has been officially cancelled, known by many as Mas Domnik will not take place.

Tourism Minister Denise Charles made the announcement at a press conference on Wednesday 2 December.

“Fellow Dominicans and patrons, I wish to inform you that after much deliberations and consultation the government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has taken the responsible decision to cancel our annual Carnival, Mas Domnik 2021”, Charles announced.

She said the decision was made with key stakeholders of the carnival. In assuring the Mas Domnik carnival community, she stated that “As we have been doing in the tourism sector, we will continue to use this period to strategize on enhancing on other events and festivals for 2021/2022 and beyond.”

The Ministry of Health has also recorded new Covid-19 cases and revealed that active case count is currently13.

Mas Domnik was initially scheduled for 15 and 16 February 2021.
