Dirty mas bands first started back in the early 1800s with the emancipation of slavery in the Caribbean. In recent times they have developed into commercial entities and become a predominant element in Carnival celebrations around the globe.
Dirty Mas is, as its name suggests, a messy celebration in which you’re going to get covered in chocolate, mud, paint, powder and oil. It’s colourful, but it’s definitely not pretty mas!
Here are some of the bands that will be on the road for Notting Hill Carnival Sunday 27 August 2022, although be aware that some may be sold out or getting close to that point. If you wish to take part then there is no harm in trying to see if you can get on board with one of these packages.
