Royalty at the Tabernacle – roll out the red carpet for David Rudder

|

Charles was only a prince when he visited The Tabernacle last year, but on Thursday 12, Friday 13 and Saturday 14 October the Tab stage will host a true monarch – King David Rudder. He’ll be supported by two royal dukes of calypso, De Alberto and Tobago Crusoe, plus the Prince of Soca himself, Martin Jay.

Anticipation is high after last August’s spectacular show at Opera Holland Park, which brought more than just a feelgood party atmosphere to the ‘big tent’ – it was akin to a spiritual experience. When it was time for High Mas, the air crackled with joyful energy.

As David himself told Soca News after the Holland Park show, “The energy in the place was fantastic… What happened that night was very powerful; there was an instant connection.”

In these turbulent times we need that uplift more than ever, so we can be thankful for that great impresario of Carnival and calypso, Mr Sonny Blacks, having the vision to bring David Michael Rudder back to the London stage.

Kaiso Lime stalwarts Tobago Crusoe (Ortneil Bacchus) and De Alberto (Winston Albert) need no introduction to Tabernacle regulars. They’ll be paying tribute to ‘The Three Calypso Lords’ – Lord Kitchener, Lord Beginner and Lord Woodbine – who came over on that Caribbean ship of state, HMT Empire Windrush.

This is a show you can’t afford to miss, so get your tickets (£20) via eventbrite.co.uk, call the hotline 07956 523296, or pay more on the door.

  • The Tabernacle, Powis Square, London W11 2AY, tubes Westbourne Park or Notting Hill Gate. Doors open 7pm, showtime 7.30pm.
