US-based songstress to make her Soca debut in her home country

|

Trinidadian-born singer Cherreece Bernard, better known by her stage name Rreecey, will make her soca debut in her home country during the 2024 carnival season. The aspiring soca artist has been living in the United States since 2005, where she has performed on various calypso stages, such as the Calypso Tents in New York and several carnivals in Philadelphia, Boston and New York.

Her new single Auto Body is an upbeat soca track that strongly expresses Rreecey’s talent, confidence and creativity. She worked on the track with renowned soca songwriter Jason “Shaft” Bishop, who inspired her greatly. “I decided to rely on Shaft for a new sound, new energy, different vibe to the music”, she said.

Rreecey is, however, not a stranger to meeting and working with soca and calypso greats. Her most beloved teacher was the late Singing Sandra, who worked with her in 2014 at the Calypso Tents in New York. The two had a good relationship that was inspiring and emboldening for Rreecey. She has also performed with established artists like Patrice Roberts, Destra and Peter Ram.

Rreecey hopes she will receive a warm welcome in Trinidad, at the same time she cannot wait to hit the stages of Trinidad and Tobago.
